Monday February 4, Sketch-up basics. Using the demo and the primitive tools, develop a construction, "skin" it with interesting colors and textures, then animate a walk through.

Wednesday February 6, Build a 3D structure out of Sketch-up from your Hip Hop 2D design. Building other 3D objects. Lecture and demonstration on character development. Assignment: develop 10 characters for Monday

Monday February 11, Character development critique. Constructing a 1"x1"x1" cube. Document process. Due at the beginning of class Wednesday.

Wednesday February 13, Open sketch-up file, take views of shapes (apple/shift/4) sketch out polygons, cut out and build. Convert inches to decimals. Details

Monday February 18, Overview of Assignment One, Character Development Stage Two "Text and Character Introductions" http://www.kungfupanda.com/

Phase Two: Through the stages again (all stages must be complete and completed in chronological order)
1. Listen to music
2. Select one song
3. Identify elements
4. Write out a description of the elements and compare the sounds to imagery (line, shape, values, texture, color, rhythm, movement, balance, variety etc)
5. Sketch the elements
6. Create 2D Photoshop model (flat)
7. Import model to Sketch-up
8. Build the virtual model
9. Compose a view of elements from the virtual model
10. Build a real detail (3D)
11. Combine all into a 13x19 digital print
12. Explain the process in a documentary video

For assignments needing video examples on our wiki, you will first need to upload to You Tube. Make sure that you use your full name because you will have to browse through You Tube files to find it. Generic names like "video" or "animation" may have thousands of posts. I suggest you call any uploaded video "nameassignmentdate" so you can find it easily. Below is an example from Valentina Pushkina from the 2007 4D class.

Use the scanned characters and import them into iMovie. Each image should be 6x8" and a res of 72.

Open iMovie/ new project / save it as "CharacterName"
